Along with Gerry Hollingsworth from our private client advisory team, I attended a seminar on 13 June on the very topical matter of tax planning for non-UK domiciles in the post remittance basis era. The seminar was presented by Simon Denton, Managing Director for Sovereign (UK) Limited and Laurence Lancaster, Group Head of Tax for Sovereign.
Simon and Laurence delivered a very technical presentation to a full room with speculation on the implementation of the new rules and impact of the changes as announced at the Spring budget and commented on the new landscape that non-UK domiciled individuals are expected to face in around nine months’ time.
Individuals in the room affected by the changes were keen to understand planning opportunities that could be considered now to assist them for the future under the new rules, despite legislation not yet having been enacted. Excluded property trusts, family investment companies, life insurance and qualifying non-UK pension schemes (QNUPS) all formed part of a wide ranging and informative discussion.
As well as some significant insights and takeaways from the presentations, we also had the opportunity to mingle with 100 or so other guests and enjoy the delights of the St. Martin in-the-Fields Church unique venue.
