Picture the scene – a glass of wine in the evening sunshine, a rooftop bar in central London, lots of friendly faces to chat to. Blissful networking. That was the setting of a summer party hosted by Westminster Business Council attended by me and my colleagues as members.
l-r Guests from Alliotts. Gerry Hollingsworth, Zaklina Kaehler, Clair Dart, Mary Kacigeras.
The rooftop was the top of the Hippodrome Casino, above the casino and gaming floors, the rooftop is a fantastic space with views over Covent Garden and across London’s cityscape.
Later in the evening a light shower of rain threatened to dampen guests, but a built in roof was activated and by covering the bar area, allowed us to to continue our conversations.
A rainbow over London
Sophie Shrubsole, CEO of the Westminster Business Council welcomed guests alongside Simon Thomas, executive Chairman of the Hippodrome Casino who also shared the venue’s fascinating history spanning over a century. Opening in 1900 as a circus theatre, The Hippodrome went on to be remodelled as a music hall until 1958 when it was launched as the Talk of the Town hosting some of the greatest performers of the era. In 1983 Peter Stringfellow reverts the venue to its original name as ‘the world’s greatest disco’. And then more recently in 2012 the venue is reopened by the then Mayor of London Boris Johnson as the Hippodrome Casino.
We all met and caught up with people from businesses in or trading in the Westminster area. The mix of businesses was wide-ranging and conversations were diverse and lively as everyone got into the spirit of making connections. Everyone commented on what a wonderful evening it was, one not to have been missed and we were delighted to be there. Thanks to Sophie and the Hippodrome Casino for a wonderful event.
