I was delighted to be invited by former Olympic and WTA touring coach, Nino Severino to attend ‘Come Play’ for the Elena Baltacha Foundation in support of girls from deprived backgrounds to provide them with the opportunities to succeed in the sport of tennis.

Nino Severino is a force to be reckoned with and has undertaken the huge task over the last few months of organising this incredible event, bringing together various big names from tennis, such as WTA trustees and senior management as well as stars such as Judy Murray, Jo Konta, Heather Watson, Danielle Collins and Penny Moor to support girls from various schools across the region in this Come Play event.

The children were put through their paces, learning tennis skills with a racket and balloon, a bean bag and eventually a tennis ball before being gifted tennis rackets, balls and visors from those stars in attendance before the event finished with lunch for all.

Meanwhile along with other guests, including schoolteachers, ambassadors and trustees of the foundation I was able to spectate from the VIP area as well as getting to know others in attendance.

It was an incredible day, thoroughly enjoyable and a huge opportunity for the kids. I’ve long been a tennis fan, and an passionate about supporting those who like me have skills but do not have the financial background to easily succeed, so this is an cause close to my heart. This has rekindled my love for the sport and I’m keen to continue to support Nino and the foundation in their future endeavours as they bring together sport skills and business entrepreneurs to create opportunities for more children going forward.
