The Government’s support for the UK Film and Television Sector is a key part of its ambitious plan for growth.
The Creative Industries Sector Plan published by The Rt Hon Lisa Nandy, MP Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport on 23rd June has confirmed this Government’s continued support for the UK Film and Television Market as a central part of its Industry Strategy and plan for growth.
Post Covid and Actor and Writer strikes, the sector is going from strength to strength.
Included in the plan are-
The British Film Commission does a fabulous job in supporting and promoting the infrastructure of the industry in the UK. The Commission has assisted in the delivery of over 3 million square feet of new stage space in the past 4 years: stage space in the UK now totals 6 million square feet. Post the US SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes inward investment in UK for Film and Television production totalled £4.7billion in 2024. The British Film Commission provided production support in the region of 91% of this total production spend.
Finally, Lisa Nandy sets out her ambition for the sector, ‘from Barbie and Killing Eve to Adolescence and Saltburn, the UK already has a stellar track record of producing award winning films and cutting-edge TV which are enjoyed by millions at home and around the world. But I want us to go further and to cement the UK as the best place on earth to make film and television, as we deliver our Plan for Change. This landmark Sector Plan puts the creative industries at the heart of our economic growth strategy and is key to making that ambition a reality.’
At a time when we are seeing the Government tighten the purse strings on many departments this commitment shows how it values the media sector and acknowledges its importance in, and contribution to, the UK economy.
