That’s it people, the 78th Cannes Film Festival is over, and what an amazing few days it was for Alliotts’ Media Team.

Each day we were there we met with well over 50 people, that wasn’t difficult when so many of our clients and industry contacts were in town. A continuous round of networking events, cocktail evenings and dinner invitations gave us perfect opportunities to meet. Our time in Cannes was fully focused on building and maintaining those all important relationships, without any distractions, and that’s what everyone else was there for, there was a real buzz in the air.

Some of the main industry themes at Cannes this year:

  • The threatened tariff duties from President Trump did not create too many worries. Most felt that the proposals were poorly thought out and implementation would at best be challenging.*
  • A lot of conversations centered around AI. Most agree that there are huge monetary benefits on the implementation of AI to monetize back office procedures and monitor worldwide revenues.
  • The new UK Independent Film Tax Credit has given a major boost to the UK film market.
  • There’s an increase in the number of producers looking to set up co-productions to maximise film tax credits worldwide.
  • Previous films premiered at Cannes ‘Anora’, ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, ‘Parasite’ and ‘The Substance’ have enjoyed worldwide box office success and Oscar nominations and awards. This has shone a spotlight on new films shown at Cannes and attracted buyers globally. It will be interesting to watch the roll out of the winner of this year’s Palme d`Or winner: an Iranian film, ‘It Was Just an Accident.’

And for once, it didn’t rain, well except for a few spots, but that doesn’t count.

We now look forward to Cannes 2026

*Since writing there has been a challenge to President Trump’s tariff duties, a subsequent appeal lodged by him, and an appeals court ruling. So the future of the tariffs is in the balance.
