After 118 days on strike, Sag-Aftra (Screen actors guild-American federation of television and radio artists) has reached a tentative agreement on a new three year contract with Hollywood studios. The strike ends today and will go to the union’s national board for approval tomorrow. The deal will see the first ever protection for actors against AI and a historic pay increase.
The union says the pact is valued at over $1billion and includes increases higher than other unions received this year, a participation bonus, and regulations on AI. There will also be higher caps on health and pension funds, bumps for background performers and `critical content provisions protecting diverse communities`.
The full details will be released tomorrow, after the national board vote.
Most TV and film production has been shut down since the writers went on strike six months ago. The actors joined them in July.
Once the deal is hopefully ratified tomorrow, we will no doubt see a huge surge in production in line with the post pandemic boom
