AGA Impact Academy – Empowering Future Leaders
Personal development and relationship building at this year's AGA Impact Academy Programme in Dublin
Although several weeks have passed I’m still reflecting on the incredible three days I spent at the AGA Impact Academy Programme in Dublin. I feel privileged to be part of the Alliott Global Alliance (AGA), which brings together independent accountancy, law and advisory firms from all over the world.
Alliotts LLP, as a founding member of AGA, is committed to sharing knowledge, values, and business opportunities with our professional peers. The AGA Impact Academy is an annual event designed to elevate our careers, taking place in a different location each year.
This year’s event in Dublin was amazing, thanks to our incredible leaders, Joanna Keeling and Elisabet Vinberg Hearn. They shared so many valuable insights and practical knowledge. The programme was packed with practical business sessions, networking events, and fun social activities, all aimed at making a real impact on our firms and boosting our personal brands.
Meeting peers from our global alliance was incredibly inspiring. We shared experiences, challenges, and ideas, and I came away feeling like we’d all graduated from an intense, rewarding course together. These connections have broadened my perspective and enriched my approach to both personal and professional challenges.
One of the highlights of the programme was the chance to bond with fellow attendees during the social activities. The walking tour of Dublin was a particular favourite, offering a perfect blend of learning and leisure. Sharing meals and stories with colleagues from diverse backgrounds made the whole experience feel less like a conference and more like a gathering of friends.
I can’t express enough gratitude to Alliotts for this opportunity. Being part of the Alliott Global Alliance has not only expanded my horizons but also given me a deeper understanding of the global business landscape. The chance to exchange ideas with colleagues from diverse countries has been invaluable, and I’m confident that the knowledge and connections I’ve gained will be a tremendous asset to me in my personal development and to our firm.

A light shone on the limits of the IHT gift rule
The normal expenditure out of income exemption allows individuals to make gifts during their lifetime that are immediately exempt from inheritance tax (IHT) – there is no seven-year wait. A recent case heard by the First-tier Tribunal (FTT) has cast some light on what is meant by ‘normal expenditure’.

Making Tax Digital launches but few are ready
Making Tax Digital (MTD) is now live, but given the low numbers registered with HMRC, many sole traders and landlords affected are still looking at how to comply, keep the administrative burden to a minimum and will probably be looking for inexpensive, or even free, software to use.
