The Power of Women in TV and Film

Flora Windebank presents at Women's summit in Cannes

On my first morning in Cannes I was fortunate to participate in an event which was a great start to the 75th iconic Cannes Film Festival.

I was invited to be a special guest at ‘The Power of Women in TV and Film’ Summit – an event which Alliotts was proud to sponsor. The summit was moderated by US media attorney Vinca Jarrett – who had reached out to women throughout the film industry to come together and share their experiences as women working in media.

There was a collaborative feel in the room as we enjoyed a delicious breakfast whilst looking out on to a stunning view of the Long Beach. Fellow guests included actresses, producers, lawyers, bankers and of course accountants, all active in the sector with stories to share.

As a special guest I led a table on a discussion topic; each special guest had a different topic to discuss with their table.  I facilitated a discussion on women’s experience of upward mobility in their careers, what issues they have experienced and what we can do to improve and help women’s career growth?

Discussions were interactive and lively with voices coming together from various perspectives and lived experiences. We agreed that much has improved for women in the media industry, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Opportunities and representation are still not as equal as they could or should be, and we all agreed that we have a responsibility to keep coming together to drive the momentum of making positive change.

I met some great people during the event and it was inspiring to know what a positive network of female professionals there are in this industry.  To quote Vinca in her parting words of wisdom to the group,

‘We all need to keep being each other’s cheerleaders!’

I left the room feeling energised and with a whole new network of inspirational women.
