The Shaw Gibbs Group has several offices in Central and Southern England and have ambitious plans to expand our business. To cover maternity leave, we have an opportunity for a Senior Corporate Tax Manager to join our London (Southampton Street) corporate tax team on a fixed term basis. This is a full-time role with hybrid working options available.

The Role

The Senior Corporate Tax Manager will support the Tax Partner manage the corporate tax compliance function for the London and Guildford offices. They will oversee the work ensuring deadlines are being met, appropriate budgets are set and billing on those clients. Supporting the junior members of the team through coaching and mentoring, as well as managing their training requirements in line with the qualifications they are working towards. They will provide advisory and consultancy support on a broad range of ad hoc projects to the Tax Partner and other Partners. The role will be approximately 80% compliance and 20% advisory work.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • CTA qualified or ACCA/ACA qualified plus relevant experience
  • Significant experience in a corporate tax role within a professional practice (Essential)
  • Experience of working in an accountancy practice (Essential)
  • Experience of managing a large client compliance portfolio (Essential)
  • Experience of dealing with detailed HMRC enquiries (Essential)
  • Demonstrates ‘expert level’ of understanding of own technical/professional function
  • Experience of working on long term client relationships and of working on a fee basis with clients
  • Experience of managing people
  • Highly proficient in computer software – the firm uses CCH and Alphatax; training will be given as required

  • The ability to work to timescales and meet deadlines
  • Ability to plan and organise tasks / priorities effectively
  • Gives appropriate attention to detail and has the ability to think laterally to provide a comprehensive approach to tax advice

  • The ability to utilise technical expertise to contribute to the development and broadening of the service for clients
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to explain complex matters to clients clearly and concisely.
