Alliotts joined the Shaw Gibbs Group in September 2024, a growing top 40 accountancy practice who provide expert solutions for entrepreneurial businesses and private individuals.

The Shaw Gibbs Group has several offices in Central and Southern England and have ambitious plans to expand our business. To support our growth plans, we have an opportunity for a Semi-Senior Associate to join our London team. This is a full-time role.

About You

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs to include Mathematics and English
  • Education to a degree level or equivalent
  • ACCA/ACA part-qualified
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience in an accountancy practice
  • Reasonable level of knowledge of accounting standards essential
  • Good IT knowledge and skills, particularly Excel
  • Experience using accounting software, such as CCH Accounts production, Xero & Silverfin
  • Highly organised
  • A keen interest in the media and entertainment industry

Desirable

  • An understanding of the Audio Visual Expenditure credit
  • An Understanding of the Theatre Tax Relief

  • Able to work flexibly with willingness to travel to client sites and the Firm’s other office in Guildford

As part of the Media Accounts team, the Semi-Senior Associate will carry out various accounting services to a range of clients on a day-to-day basis, including preparing statutory accounts, Audio Visual Expenditure Credit Claims and  management accounts. The role will also involve assisting with bespoke advisory projects for clients.

  • Preparation of financial accounts for sole traders, partnerships, limited companies who operate within the media sector
  • Preparing year end working paper files
  • Preparation of monthly or quarterly management accounts including posting journals of accruals, prepayments, depreciation and payroll. Preparation of control reconciliations and analytical review schedules
  • Preparation of Audio Visual Expenditure claims for film and Tv production companies
  • Maintenance of client’s accounting records and reconciliations including bookkeeping, processing of client data and dealing with queries
  • Preparation of VAT returns
  • Preparation of BFI reports, Opinion letters and accountants’ reports, together with ad-hoc reports which may be required from time to time to meet funding requirements
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets/forecasts
  • Working at clients’ premises/remotely on their computer systems, liaising with the client bookkeeper/director to prepare accounts and discuss results
  • Assisting with the training and supervision of junior members of staff

 Other duties and tasks:

  • Attendance at the other Alliotts’ office in Guildford, or client premises as required
  • Respond to and deal with general client queries in a timely manner, passing on to appropriate person for resolution where necessary
  • Maintain a keen interest in business development by promoting Alliotts as a Firm and the Media sector
  • Work with Partners and staff to provide a personal, professional service for the benefit of both clients and the Firm
