Today I joined The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk, Premier of Queensland at The High Commission of Australia in London at a reception to launch the of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Trade and Investment Program.
Queensland and the Gold Coast will host the Commonwealth Games from 4 - 15 April 2018. During this time the region will host leaders and representatives from leading nations and will be looking to showcase Queensland on the international stage. The message at today’s event was as the worlds 12th’s largest economy; being located at the mouth of the Asia pacific, close to emerging and growth markets and having a skilled workforce, Australia offers enviable trade and business opportunities. Queensland and the Gold Coast in particular are globally recognised for their expertise in the knowledge sector such as health and medical research and are also home to well established companies in food, agribusiness and education and training.
A short distance away the Queen launched the Queen’s Baton Relay at Buckingham Palace. The ceremony marks the start of the Queen’s Baton’s 288 day journey through the Commonwealth territories, culminating at the Gold Coast. When completed this will be the longest ever relay.
I would like to wish our Australian cousins a highly successful Commonwealth Games.
