Creating a stronger partnership between Malaysia and the UK was the theme of the Malaysia UK Investor Showcase that I was invited to earlier this week.

The whole day event, which was co-ordinated by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Initiative Council and in partnership with the UK-ADEAN Business Council was opened with compelling addresses from Lord Marland, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, Lord Price, Minister of State for Trade and Investment UK and The Honourable Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia.

We then heard from Government representatives, banks and businesses about the interesting opportunities that Malaysia has to offer UK businesses and investors. This was followed by a panel discussion on why the UK, and London in particular, is attracting such high levels of Malaysian investment, and the potential for further development.

Robert Tincknell, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company gave an enlightening presentation on the Malaysian investment project, which has taken a disused site featuring an iconic landmark in London and turned it into a uniquely designed collection of highly desirable homes.

Identifying opportunities for Malaysia and the UK to work together on the delivery of major infrastructure and investment projects and research and development in global markets was explored by ASEAN (The Association of Southeast Asian Nations).  Sir Alan Yarrow, Chairman of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment chaired the discussion which included many innovative ideas about how collaboration can be achieved for the benefit of both nations in the global marketplace.

The networking reception at the end of the day provided an excellent opportunity to meet the various speakers, experts and investors on a one to one basis and to make sure that Alliotts services are best aligned to help Malaysian companies and individuals looking to invest in the UK.
