Whilst making very little reference to Brexit, building the new economy was the focus of Philip Hammond’s second Budget this year.

His commitment includes further investment in technology; incentives for knowledge based companies and funding for the development of construction skills to plug the skills shortage. 

Homebuilding was high on his agenda as part of the fulfilment of the Conservative home ownership dream. His Stamp Duty ‘giveaway’ for first time buyers was a welcome surprise and he has also created ‘Homes England,’ a new body to overcome many of the barriers to building new homes. 

As part of his continued anti Tax Avoidance drive the Chancellor has again introduced more ways to prevent businesses and individuals from using or abusing perceived tax loop holes.
